Traction

Traction therapy involves applying a pulling force to the body to gently separate joint surfaces or bones, often used to relieve pressure on the spine or nerves. The force can be applied manually, using a traction machine, or with counterweights. The amount of force, direction, and method are carefully adjusted based on the patient's condition.

The main goals of traction are to reduce muscle tension, alleviate pain caused by compression, and improve alignment in the spine or other joints.

Benefits of Traction Therapy

  • Relieves muscle tension: By stretching the muscles, traction helps reduce spasms and tightness.
  • Reduces spinal and nerve pressure: It alleviates the pressure on spinal discs and nerves, which can relieve back pain and associated symptoms.
  • Separates spinal joints: Traction creates space between the vertebrae, particularly in the neck or lower back, promoting healing and reducing discomfort.
