DEXA Scan

DEXA Scan for Bone Density and Body Composition
Bone densitometry, also called a DEXA Scan (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry), uses a very small dose of radiation to measure the density of bone and tissues. It is commonly used to diagnose osteoporosis and to assess the risk of developing osteoporotic fractures. This test can also measure your body composition, such as body fat and muscle mass.
DEXA is simple, quick and noninvasive. It is the most commonly used and is considered the gold standard method for diagnosing osteoporosis. DEXA is also the preferred method of analyzing body composition (muscle mass and body fat) because it is highly accurate and can measure regional fat distribution.
DEXA Bone Density / Body Composition is suitable for people with the following:
- Aged 50 years or above
- Menopausal women
- Family history of osteoporosis
- Risk of osteoporosis from certain drugs such as steroids, antacids
- High risk activities such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, sedentary lifestyle
- Athletes, overweight individuals or anyone who is interested in knowing muscle mass and body fat
ADDLIFE uses GE’s Lunar Prodigy, the world’s most trusted DEXA system. Prodigy delivers with exceptional precision with very low-dose radiation and provides precise data on soft tissue and bone composition, including bone-mineral density (BMD), lean- and fat-tissue mass, and percentage of fat. Prodigy uses narrow-angle fan beam technology, a robust design refined over 30 years and has over 14,500 units installed worldwide.
